The Top Draw team were the lead in this years annual Big Draw month.
Our project focused on the theme of 'It's Our World.'
In September 2014, a member of the Junk Art Group (Lee) presented the Top Draw Group with a carrier bag containing materials he'd collected from home including newspapers, cardboard boxes and flyers. This is something Lee has done regularly over the years.

This gesture can be easily overlooked due to limited storage space and the uncertainty surrounding how these materials are utilised as one can only use so many newspapers!

This made us consider notions of worth and what can be seem as useful and how small gestures can be worth a second look.

The Top Draw Group decided to use materials brought in by Lee to make a sculpture and produce imaginary/architectural drawings of the evolving model.

At the start of each session throughout October, the group documented each item that Lee brought in his carrier bags. The results of the project were exhibited at Queen Street Hub at the end of the month.

The creation of the model became a performance piece in itself.

We also invited service users and staff to take part in creating a wall of paper carrier bags inviting people to post a thought in which visitors could view at their leisure. This was a drop in style activity that ran alongside the main collaborative artwork.

'I drew a map of the sculpture we made out of Lee's boxes and newspapers. Marc said that the drawing reminded him of a circuit board. It made me think of factories and what they looked like on the inside. It made me think about how I use my brain, my memory and my imagination.' Richard.
